The problems of homelessness and poverty seem overwhelming and too big to solve, but we can “help that one”. Last month we shared the story of our friend Rebecca, a hard working Social worker and respected member of the community. She has debilitating headaches daily, along with several other very painful tiring illnesses. She is unable to work, spending most of her day in bed. Becca is awaiting a hearing to get Social Security Disability, and has been waiting almost 3 YEARS. She is having to fundraise just to survive.
Unfortunately her story is not uncommon. We know many people stuck in “Social Security LIMBO”… too sick to work, but waiting for disability that is years away. In order to help even more women like Rebecca we are excited to announce that we will be establishing the “Starfish Fund” for Emergency Assistance Fund. Funds will be used to help pay for rent, utility bills, groceries, car payments, whatever is needed to keep a person housed and taken care of until they can get government or family assistance.
